Feix and Merlin with Techniker Ltd are one of the five finalists to be shortlisted for the Gasholder No 8 competition, part of the Kings Cross Central regeneration project. The proposal, incorporating a high adrenalin trampoline and helter skelter, will be developed in detail over the next few weeks and the winner will be announced at the end of October.
The new Wear crossing

Stephen Spence and Techniker scheme for the new Wear landmark bridge in Sunderland has today been backed and approved by the City Council and a planning application is scheduled for later this year. Subject to further permissions, construction could start in 2012. Over the past 9 months detailed assessments of costs, construction methods and maintenance have been undertaken to prove practicality. Extensive wind tunnel testing has been required to assess the stability of the slender towers
Grafton Road

A derelict 3 storey warehouse, bought in Kentish Town by the photographer John Rankin, has just been converted into a 5 storey mixed-used building by Trevor Horne Architects and Techniker Ltd. Planning condition required to provide additional 11 one bedroom flats within the new building.
The Salvation Army

The new Salvation Army Centre designed by Anthony Hudson Architects was opened on 21st March. Techniker Ltd. developed a plate structure of cross-laminated timber panels to create the large top-lit congregation hall and ancillary spaces.

Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands have won a competition for the design of a new tram system for Luxembourg City. The structural engineering of the masts, canopies and associated bridgeworks is by Techniker Ltd. Various elements in steel have been developed and detailed using a consistent vocabulary.

Scotswood Expo Competition

Proctor and Matthews with Techniker Ltd are one of the six winning practices of the Scottswood Expo Competition. The 'mi home' is a re-interpretation of the terrace house accounting for the expansions and evolution of family life. The scheme will be developed into a prototype unit for the Expo.

The Stadthaus has won the 'High rise honour' award at the Timber in construction awards ceremony early this month. The building has been designed by Waugh Thistleton Architects in collaboration with Techniker Ltd and KLH.

The Stadthaus, the 9 storey timber building in Shoreditch designed by Waugh Thistleton and Techniker and constructed in KLH wood panels, received 'The Achievement in Engineered Timber' at the TTJ Award 2008 and the 'Structural and Offsite Construction Awards' at the Wood Awards 2008.
Queen Anne's Gate

Works have started on site at Queen Anne's Gate, a major refurbishment by Foster and Partners of an existing building near St James' Park, previously the headquarters of the National Trust . The intervention will feature a new elliptical stair and a glass light shaft in the new void at the heart of the building.
Massive Timber Tower

An installation of cross laminated lumber (massive timber) has been constructed by KLH Ltd to a design by architects Waugh Thistleton and engineers Techniker. The 12 meter high tower, set up for the opening of London's Design festival, is being transferred from its site in Hoxton Square to the 100% Detail exhibition at Earls Court between 18th and 21st of September and then to Interbuild in Birmingham between 26th and 30th October.

The competition winning scheme for a major road bridge in Sunderland designed by Stephen Spence three years ago with Techniker Ltd as engineers is now released for public consultation. The proposal for a cable stayed structure with sculpted pylons spans 290metres.
Nan Yui

The architectural competition for a mixed use development in mainland China has been won by CJ Lim, Studio 8 Architects with engineering support from Techniker Ltd and Fulcrum Consulting.
Eight towers containing offices, hotels and residential accommodation are arranged around a city block on a plinth containing arts and retail amenities. The concept of a 'golden bowl' unifies the composition.

Alice Through the Looking Glass, V&A Museum

Following on from the structural design of Anthony Gormley's 'Blind light' installation at London's Hayward Gallery Techniker Ltd. has provided analysis and construction advice for the card-board structure designed by CJ Lim for the subway entrance to the V&A museum. All elements were pre-cut from honeycomb sheet to a computer-generated pattern.

The first panels of the world's tallest timber building have arrived on site in Shoreditch. The nine storey point block designed by architects Waugh Thistleton for Telford Homes has a solid laminated timber superstructure supplied by KLH and engineered by Techniker. Progress shots will be posted over the coming weeks.
Mersey Observatory

The shortlisted entry for a new observation point overlooking the Mersey estuary by Studio 8 architects has involved some exciting engineering for Techniker. A long stepped ramp opens onto a large platform which has been carefully tuned to remain stable and sheltered in the worst storm conditions.
The project would be delivered from the waterside to avoid disturbing the adjacent nesting grounds.
Maison tropicale

Tehniker has been appointed to undertake a complete structural analysis of Jean Prouve's Maison Tropicale on show at the Tate Modern until 13 April 2008. The pioneering steel sectional building was created without design calculations. Originally intended as a house for husband-and-wife colonialists, to be delivered by airplane, the building has been retrieved from the Congo to become a roving exhibition piece. Our analysis has yielded fascinating insights into the design thinking of the celebrated architect.
Rivington Place

The new Arts Centre in Shoreditch by David Adjaye with Techniker has opened to general critical acclaim. The polished black pre-cast panelled façade is a distinctive addition to the streetscape supported on very tall walls of self-compacting concrete. The wide-span floor plates and steel-framed saw-tooth roof provide large flexible spaces to users.
Southwark Park School

The competition for the remodelling of the Victorian Board School next to Southwark Park has been won by Birds Portchmouth and Russum Architects with Techniker.
The proposals include the remodelling of the listed building and the addition of a series of pavilions and landscape to complement the existing schools extraordinary character.

The weekend of 29 September 2007 saw the office in Holland visiting housing projects and manufacturing facilities.
An increased workload involving pre-cast concrete work took us to the Hibex plant in Groningen, the makers of our façade at David Adjaye's Rivington Place, to see the process and specification potential of the material. We visited recent housing schemes by OMA, Studio 333 and BIQ, the designers of our project at Bluecoat Art Centre, Liverpool.
The Stadthaus, Hoxton

Britain's tallest timber residential building, designed by Waugh Thistleton Architects with Techniker is now submitted for planning permission.
The flat block structure will be assembled from fully-prefabricated panels. The proprietary system by Austrian group KLH has been detailed to meet all UK legislation and to provide a robust, extremely long-lasting and sustainable building construction.
Blind Light

A highly engineered glass box forms the centre-piece to Antony Gormley's first major solo London show currently being held at the Hayward Gallery. Techniker used details developed by the company over the past decade to create a seamless enclosure of glass supporting air-conditioning equipment altered to create a fog within.
Highgate Baptist Church

The roof and interior of the Baptist Church in Dartmouth Park is now removed and work commenced on a new structural frame for high quality apartments within. The temporary façade retention sustained the January storms without damage.
Chilterns Gateway Visitors Centre

A new pavilion housing café, retail and orientation facilities is now open on the Dunstable Downs. The single storey building marks the northern end of the Ridgeway long distance footpath. Full height windows overlook the London Gliding Club.
Hine House, Lympstone

A fine private house is now complete overlooking the estuary of the River Exe in Devon. A wide canopy roof shelters full height windows to the living spaces. The formal design is surrounded by walled gardens.
University of Essex

The new 1000 seat auditorium on the Colchester Campus of the University of Essex is now complete. A 60 metre long pedestrian bridge links the complex to the central podium of the college.
Chichester Regional Museum

Fountain Street, Manchester

Stephenson Bell Architects scheme for a new office block in Central Manchester has won a limited design competition. Structural design by Techniker Ltd and environmental design by Max Fordham and Partners support the provision of first-class office accommodation on a confined site.
University of Essex

The main beams for the access bridge to the new lecture hall have arrived as fully pre-fabricated units from NuSteel structures. The very long load, (35 metres), was escorted to site by police and placed in two lifts of 17 tonnes each.
Project Lateral

A topping out ceremony will take place in early September now that the cladding and penthouse structure of Project Lateral is all complete. The luxury flats designed by Foster and Partners for Candy and Candy are due for completion in March 2007.
Office Summer Outing

Techniker Ltd has taken its summer outing to the new visitors centre on the Dunstable Downs. The 'Chiltern Gateway' overlooks the London Gliding Club and is a low-energy building by Architype for Bedfordshire County Council. The pavilion will provide refreshment and orientation facilities at one end of the Chilterns long-distance footpath.
Lympstone House

A private house making fine use of a site overlooking Exmouth harbour is just completed. Simon Conder Architect's design has a large steel framed canopy roof and frameless glass screen walls. The formal planning of the house extends into the surrounding gardens.
Abercorn Close

The private house constructed on a confined mews site in St. Johns Wood is now occupied. Accommodation includes a subterranean swimming pool. The structure combines concrete shell and frame elements with a lightweight steel superstructure.
Project Lateral

With the completion of the penthouse steel framing this apartment block at Gresham Place is topped out. The exceptionally high specification of elements in Foster and Partners scheme is apparent in the finish achieved in the load-bearing front façade panels.

The Devon Guild of Craftsman pavilion with Softroom Architects won an RIBA regional award on 23rd June. The citation mentioned the fine detailing of the lightweight steel frame.
Rochester Riverside

Detailed design of the timber, steel and carbon fibre footbridges alongside the River Medway has commenced. Completion is due by 2021.
Prah Road

The structure of the new house at Prah Road, Finsbury Park, N4 is finished and the building envelope is being fixed. The design by Bere Architects was initially structured with in-situ cast reinforced concrete. All wall and floor sections were directly substituted with cross laminated timber for economy, sustainability and future flexibility.
Pitt Rivers Museum

The roof structure of the extension to the Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford, designed by architects Pringle Brandon Sharatt is now completed. The solid laminated lumber hipped plate structure was rapidly assembled from prefabricated panels fixed onto a substrate of steel ring-beams.
Rochester Riverside Footbridges

Together with Birds Portchmouth Russum Architects the company has won a competition for the design of a new footbridge spanning tidal creeks on the east bank of the river Medway. The project will be part of a re-development of the Rochester Riverside and Thames Gateway area.

The competition for a new crossing over the River Wear at Sunderland has been won by Stephen Spence Associates as architects with Techniker engineering and cost consultancy by Davis Langdon. The proposal for the 320m span bridge incorporates a central pair of pylons supporting a lightweight road deck through arrays of cables.
