Images: 1 2 3 4 5 6 Enlarge image			Spence Associates and Techniker have won the limited design competition for a motorway bridge across the River Wear on the approach to Sunderland. The proposal comprises a pair of sculpted pylons set in the waterway from which a steel and lightweight concrete composite deck is suspended. Ship building techniques will be applied to the fabrication in curved steel plates of the main towers.
