Clearwater Yard

A low-energy office building is developed on the site of a redundant timber yard in Camden Town's conservation area. The structure comprises an exposed reinforced concrete frame with all fittings cast in flush. Concrete mix and formwork patterns are rigorously specified. The building is set below ground level in response to a low building line with piled foundations, reinforced concrete ground beams and retaining walls. Party walls form the building envelope on two sides. These elements are underpinned independently with the new building cantilevered out to its margins to avoid overloading the old brickwork. A unique cladding system is developed using a metal tee section mullion and collaged infils of double glazing, coloured glass and 'Reglit' cast glass panels. |
