Aeolian Piano

Aeolian Piano, an artwork by Turner Prize nominated artist Catherine Yass, is a project developed across several stages. Early predictive analyses by Techniker included full scale wind-tunnel tests on a grand piano to determine potential drift when dropped from forty stories as well as assessments of scatter radius of debris and subterranean damage on impact. The executed work was one of a series commissioned to signal the departure of the BBC from its iconic site in West London. The piano was suspended from a crane and filmed as it was swung high above the circular structure of the TV Centre as a final swan song to the building.
