Faith Zone, Millennium Dome

An exhibition space describing Britain’s religious experience was developed as a series of linked spaces beneath an enclosing canopy. A major road tunnel just below the site dictated a highly distorted plan form. Reduced wind pressures within the main dome were exploited to produce an extremely attenuated structure. A geodesic shell of steel strutting, independent of the enclosure, formed the centrepiece and provide the armature for a light sculpture by the American artist James Turrell.
