Exemplary use of structural cross laminated solid timber zinc clad panels

Judge's comments, RIBA Awards

Focus House

A confined end-of-terrace site was developed with a spatially intricate private house. Originally conceived in in-situ cast reinforced concrete, the structure was completed using cross laminated solid timber for walls and floors. The box like build-up allows the first floor to cantilever forward above the car port without columns. All components were fabricated in Austria, shipped in carefully planned loads and placed using a mobile crane. The structure is a completely sustainable use of a renewable natural resource.
